Justice Revival!

Whatever your political, socioeconomic, cultural or denominational background may be,… If you are a follower of Jesus and are interested in pressing into His mission of justice, message of restoration and work of salvation than the place for you to be tonight and tomorrow night is the Justice Revival at Vineyard Columbus.

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He taught in synagogues, and everyone praised him.

He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom
for the prisoners and recovery of
sight for the blind, to release the
oppressed, to proclaim the year
of the Lord’s favor.”

The he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him and he began by saying to them, “Today, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Luke 4:14-21

Jesus began a movement in earnest some 2000 years ago in Palestine. He handed it off to his followers and now we are the inheritors of a rich heritage of justice, peace, restoration and the work of the Spirit to transform lives, broken systems, families, neighborhoods, cities and nations. May we be the generation to stop pitting ’social justice’ against ‘evangelism’ only to watch the gospel lose its power. Instead, I pray that we join in one voice and say, “Yes! We choose BOTH,.. because Jesus mission is without power and his message is incomplete when we say no to either one.”

  1. This is great. Please blog about what is actually said at this thing. There’s been a lot of talk about VCC’s Justice Revival at the Sojourners Forum, but much of it is “duh, we should have been doing that long ago” type stuff.

  2. I’ll have some more specific thoughts after the finale tonight.. Needless to say, however, it’s been fantastic AND we should have been doing this stuff a long time ago. :)
